Along with the PadFone Infinity, Asus also announced the Fonepad. It’s basically a mid-sized tablet with cellular capabilities for making voice calls. Asus is trying to sell it as an all-in-one that could substitute the need for carrying multiple devices, but we think it’s more suitable for those who rarely make phone calls and want a tablet more often than not. After all, it’s difficult to imagine anyone making calls on this thing in public without feeling a tad embarrassed (see photo below).
Running Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, the Fonepad features a 7″ WXGA (1280×800) IPS display, Intel Atom Z2420 1.2GHz processor with PowerVR GX540 GPU, 1GB of RAM, 8 or 16GB of internal storage (expandable via microSD card), a 3 megapixel snapper on the back, 1.2MP front-facing camera, and a 4270mAh battery. The metallic tablet clocks in at 10.4mm thick and 340g in weight. This one will be released in March 2013 at a price-point of $250. Until then, have a gander at the image gallery, videos and specs below.
